American Soapstone has a little confusing name for this stone because it is called a soapstone when it is actually a granite. Yes, American Soapstone is a granite rather than a soapstone. They must have named it “soapstone” considering how similar it looks to a soapstone.
The stone comes in dual finish so one side of the stone is honed finish, and another side of it is leather finish. The leather finish version looks a lot lighter than the honed finish side. The photo shown is the leather side of the stone.
American Black soapstone actually being a granite gives you that soft soapstone look without the stone being fragile, extremely susceptible for scratches.
