Soft quartzite on the other hand carries similar characteristics to “marble countertops”. Both soft and hard quartzite comes in light colors similar to marble. Marble Countertops
Marble is a metamorphic rock which shapes from limestone under high heat and pressure. Travertine Countertops
Travertine is a form of limestone which is mainly used for building materials. Travertine is composed of carbonate minerals deposited by hot springs such as Yellowstone National Park, Mammoth Hot Springs. Travertine is a soft and absorbent stone due to its composition, therefore we do not recommend travertine for kitchen countertops. Granite Columbus does not carry travertine slabs in stock all the time due to low demand. Limestone Countertops
Limestone is a sedimentary stone composed of calcium carbonate and is mainly used for floor tiles, stone facings, and many different purposes. Because of its soft and porous nature, we do not recommend limestone for kitchen countertops, but it can be an elegant option for low trafficking areas such as master bedroom vanities. Columbus Granite does not carry limestone slabs in stock all the time but feel free to call us to check our inventory and we will happy to direct you to some of the limestone suppliers in Columbus if we do not have the material in stock.
Onyx Countertops
Onyx is a natural stone which is becoming more popular because of its translucent nature. This unique feature allows light to pass through and creates a shiny, glamorous, and stunning look for onyx stone. However, onyx is soft, highly fragile and requires lots of maintenance. Therefore, onyx stone is generally used for bar tops instead of kitchen countertops. Columbus Granite does not carry onyx slabs in stock.
Soapstone Countertops
Soapstone is a metamorphic rock composed mainly of talc and other minerals. Because of its composition, soapstone is non-porous, non-absorbent, heat resistant and easy to shape. These characteristics makes soapstone ideal for home decorations such as kitchen countertops, vanity tops, fireplace etc. Soapstone is the only natural stone does not need sealing because of its non-porous nature and it makes it anti-bacterial. Soapstone does not have many color options and we have some in our stock.
